Aghanistan Project

I've put together some links that should prove to be a good starting point in your research. Also, don't forget to take a look at the books I've pulled for your class on this topic. You'll find them on a gold cart at the front of the library, marked "Aghanistan Project". If you're looking for a copy of the assignment, you can find it here.

Canada's Involvement in Afghanistan

  • The CBC has a service on it's website called "News in Depth," where they comile stories on major subjects. Here's the "News in Depth" file on Afghanistan.

  • Talking to the Taliban is a video series from the Globe and Mail where reporters talk to members of the Taliban about their thoughts on the war and the world.

General Afghanistan Information

  • Afghanistan Online is an award-winning site with a wealth of information about Afghanistan and it's people. An excellent starting point in any investigation.

  • Believe it or not, one of the best and most reliable places to find information about countries is the CIA. This entry in the CIA Factbook is a great source for statistical data about Afghanistan.

  • This map, from NATO, shows the different areas, or "stages" of the Afghanistan war effort. Each "stage" is run by a different country, so this map will show you where Canada is most involved in the war effort.

  • If your looking for other kinds of maps of Afghanistan, you'll find them here, in a collection provided by the University of Texas.

General Resources

  • EBSCO is an online database that we subscribe to here at Shaftesbury that provides access to thousands of periodicals online. Unsure how to use it? Check out the EBSCO tutorial in the Library Resource Tutorials page.

  • Shaftesbury has a subscription to World Book Online, which is the online version of the encyclopedia. The information found here is very in-depth. World Book online is often a great place to start any search.

  • Citation Machine is a site that will put together a works cited page for you, in MLA and APA format. Just add in the information about your sources, and let the website do the work for you!
